URCI*: 673602051200 • WRHP-Entry: 9383 • No Type
Taxon (Basionym): Tillandsia cereicola Mez Details on Taxon 2867
(Bromeliaceae) — WRHP-Taxon 2867
Collected as: «Tillandsia, grau {Tillandsia, grey}
[added later in red:] Vriesea spec. Gru[ppe] cereicola»
Name(s) of accession: Vriesea cereicola   Tropicos
Tillandsia cereicola   Tropicos
Collected part: plant(s)
Gathering date: 1967-08-25
Location (Entry): «Mantaro [= Río Marañon !] – Balsas {valley of Río Mantaro near Balsas}»

Peru (PE), Departamento Cajamarca, Provincia Celendín, Distrito Utco, next inhabited place between Choropata and Choloque, at highway PE-08B
Environement: «[HEIDRAUHFDB036_156:] Grandiose Halbwüstenlandschaft {magnificent half desert landscape}»
1400 m.s.m.
Estimated precision of locality data: ±3 km
Location comment (Entry): Rauh indicated the valley of Río Mantaro near Balsas as locality. This is impossible as the valley of Río Mantaro, which Rauh visited several times, is ca. 700 km S of Balsas in Dept. Huancavelica, Ayacucho etc. The correct river is Río Marañon, which he erroneously noted as Río Mantaro already the day before on page HEIDRAUHFDB036_153 in the heading of the day. In the heading of all living gatherings Rauh 20503 ... on page HEIDRAUHFDB036_159 he noted the correct river name: «Lebende Pflanzen 25.8.67
Rio Marañon – Cajamarca {living plants collected 1967-08-25 on the way from Río Marañon valley to Cajamarca}».
The cited elevation is also not correct. On page HEIDRAUHFDB036_155 Rauh wrote: «1300m. Till. beginnen mit Till. aff. latifolia. {Tillandsias beginning at 1300 msm with Tillandsia aff. latifolia}». The gathering Rauh 20512 is mentionad for the first time at page HEIDRAUHFDB036_156 as «1400 Tillandsia grau, schmale Ähren {1400 msm, Tillandsia grey, narrow spikes}».
Coordinates were taken from the point where highway PE-8B from Balsas (Dept. Amazonas) to Cajamarca (Dept. Cajamarca), the destination of the day, crosses the 1400 msm contour line. [CNS 2018-04-18]
