[English version:]
Central East Madagascar in the region of the Lac Aloatra, near Manatana, not far away from the locality of the new white-flowering Pachypodium rosulatum var. inopinatum. | Comments | In the «Eingangbuch» (inventory book) of Heidelberg Botanical Garden the locality is cited as «Anjojorobe». Such a place could not be found.
The protologue cites a place named «Manatana», which could not be found in a number of sources as well, but there is a place «Manakana», ca. 5 km S of the locus classicus of Pachypodium inopinatum Lavranos, syn. Pachypodium rosulatum var. inopinatum (Lavranos) G.D. Rowley, («ca. 25 km S of the Telomita chrome mine and village») and 30 km S of Telomita, ca. 100 km W of Lac Aloatra. It is very likely that the place name was misspelled when written on the label or in the book. Thus Manakana (Province de Mahajanga, Madagaskar) should be regarded as locus classicus.
